Iron, manganese and hydrogen sulphide are elements of particular importance in the treatment of water as they can, even if present only in traces, seriously compromising the use of a source of supply.
In particular, iron is one of the contaminants more difficult to remove, because of its ability to change valence passing from the soluble state (Fe + +) state insoluble (Fe + + +), giving the water a yellow-reddish color and a metallic unpleasant taste.
It can also cause the formation of deposits with gradual occlusion of the tubing, and is often the cause of corrosion processes in plants.
The process of iron removal consists precisely in the removal of the iron content in the water to be treated by improving the color, taste and smell.
It is by means of filters deferrizers inside which are present filtering masses active or ion exchange resins, and some special adsorbents which retain not only iron, but also manganese and moderate amounts of aluminum, ammonia and dissolved organic substances.
The iron accumulated in the masses is periodically discharged with a countercurrent washing of the masses, carried out with sodium chloride, to restore the original capacity.
These devices can provide in an automatic way to washing the filter material (automatic head with a timer to program the frequency of washes), don’t need chemicals or special maintenance.

It is advisable, finally, install upstream and downstream of the deferrization filter a filter with washable cartridge not less than 50 microns.
